The award was created in 1990 in recognition of the
career of Herbert R. (Bud) Knight, an instructor at
the Ontario Police College.
Bud Knight created a youth officer course at the OPC,
and over the years exhibited outstanding dedication
and commitment to training youth officers throughout
Ontario. He was also instrumental in creating the Committee
of Youth Officers for the Province of Ontario.
About the Award
Presentation of the Bud Knight Award is a very important
part of our annual Conference. Bud Knight is a retired
Ontario Police College Instructor. He was instrumental
in establishing a youth officers’ training course
at OPC and in creating the Committee of Youth Officers
for the Province of Ontario.
The award is presented annually to an Ontario Police
Officer who has shown interest, commitment and dedication
above and beyond the call of duty to youth. The officer's
exemplary youth service delivery can be related to on-duty
responsibilities or to community volunteer work. Applications
must focus on the officer's accomplishments both on
and off duty. Any nominee (except previous recipients)
can be re-nominated.
The award is presented each year at the conference
organized by the Committee of Youth Officers for the
Province of Ontario.
